Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney didn’t want long to address the recent vacancy at the top of the organization’s middleweight division, confirming the title will be awarded in an eventual fight between the winner of Season 6 finalists Maiquel Falcao-Andreas Spang and Alexander Shlemenko . The title became available when Hector Lombard – the lone fighter to wear the belt in Bellator’s history – signed a contract with the UFC . Rebney confirmed the news via his Twitter account
The main event at UFC 144 between Frankie Edgar and Benson Henderson did the UFC ’s return to Japan proud after the two talented lightweights battled for the belt in a bout ultimately named the event’s Fight of the Night . Henderson narrowly outpointed Edgar after doing more damage throughout their twenty-five minute match-up. Both men were awarded $65,000 for their performances

An action-packed night in Toronto offered a number of options where UFC 140 bonuses were concerned with nine finishes the card. However, in the end the organization still had to pick, and as such four men walked away with an extra $75,000 on top of their regular pay. Fittingly, “Fight of the Night” was awarded to headliners Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida after the two 205ers went toe-to-toe with the Brazilian dishing out some damage only to get dropped, then choked unconscious in the second round
