UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum understands he’s not next in line for a crack at divisional gold. While Werdum has looked sharp en route to a 2-0 record since returning to the Octagon, the 34-year old Brazilian was outclassed by Alistair Overeem a little more than a year ago and also has Cain Velasquez in front of him as top contender
Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem were expected to meet earlier this year in the first UFC heavyweight title defense for the young Brazilian champion. However, after Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test and was eventually denied his fight license by the Nevada Athletic Commission, “Cigano” was placed into a match with Frank Mir . Dos Santos had little trouble toppling Mir and is now expected to meet Cain Velasquez in at UFC 152 .

The influx of opinions has been plentiful since Jon Jones was arrested last month for DUI and pleaded guilty in order to avoid increased punishment. However, few of the light heavyweight champion’s peers have offered up their thoughts on Jones’ situation whether to show compassion or even condemn his behavior.
There has been some debate as to whether or not UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez deserves a rematch with divisional champion Junior dos Santos after only picking up a win over Antonio Silva since suffering a knockout loss to the hard-hitting Brazilian this past November. However, Dos Santos himself apparently feels Velasquez is the top contender out there to his title despite the looming shadow cast by suspended challenger Alistair Overeem . “I don’t think Overeem deserves to be fighting for the title at this point because he got his drug test failed so I think Cain Velasquez deserve his rematch against me,” said Dos Santos on this past week’s episode of Spike TV’s MMA Uncensored
Cain Velasquez handled Antonio Silva Saturday night in the co-main event of UFC 146 , scoring a takedown and bloodying the face of Silva with a vicious elbow. The successful showing was his first since dropping the heavyweight title to Junior dos Santos last November.

UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos and former title-holder Frank Mir will collide in the main event of UFC 146 Saturday night in Las Vegas and, surprising few given their in-ring reputations, neither sees the fight going five full rounds. UFC heavyweight Frank Mir has a lot of respect for the stand-up skills of divisional champion Junior dos Santos . However, when it comes to the Brazilian’s ground-game it’s a different story altogether. While “Cigano” is primarily known for his boxing, a good portion of the success in Mir’s career has been the result of his BJJ-based arsenal including nine submissions in sixteen total wins
Despite featuring a PPV lineup comprised completely of heavyweights it looks like the scope of UFC 146 has gotten even larger with the announcement that the headlining tilt between Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir will be featured on a three-part UFC Primetime special documenting the final build towards the bout. The first show will air on May 11 on FX at 11:00 PM EST after the latest episode of the Ultimate Fighter 15 with May 18 and May 25 hosting the following installments. Replays will be shown on Fuel TV.
