Earlier this morning, while most MMA fans were nestled snug in their beds with dreams of Nate Diaz ’s dominance at UFC on FOX 3 filling their heads, Indian promotion Super Fight League put on their third show. The card was headlined by a bout between heavyweights James Thompson and Bobby Lashley with other notable fighters such as Zelg Galesic and Trevor Prangley also scheduled for action.

When UFC President Dana White revealed Frank Mir would be stepping in for Alistair Overeem at UFC 146 to face heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos the MMA community was quick to respond, expressing a wide variety of opinions ranging from confusion over the timing to satisfaction at the organization taking initiative. However, one of the most important men in the equation – Dos Santos – hadn’t spoken publicly on the matter…at least until now.
Like most fighters who have achieved a similar level of greatness, 14-1 UFC champion Junior dos Santos isn’t out to prove he’s second best. After a storied run through the division the heavy-handed Brazilian has established himself as the sport’s top heavyweight with one possible exception – Alistair Overeem .
As far as Michael Bisping is concerned, fellow UFC middleweight Mark Munoz never belonged in a bout to determine the next contender to Anderson Silva ‘s divisional title to begin with. Bisping, who went the distance with Chael Sonnen as a replacement for Munoz earlier this year, will face Tim Boetsch at UFC 148 on July 7. Many felt Bisping and Munoz would be paired up next, including “The Filipino Wrecking Machine”, but instead it was Boetsch who earned the fight thanks in large part to his knockout of Yushin Okami last month.
