It’s been six weeks since Strikeforce heavyweight Daniel Cormier collided with Josh Barnett , winning the promotion’s Grand Prix , and yet no news has surfaced regarding who he’ll face in the company’s cage before joining the UFC ’s roster. The only other heavyweight under contract to Strikeforce at the moment is Barnett, who also has a final fight left in the organization before moving on, meaning at least one free agent will be brought in

Middleweight Patrick Cote was confident in the likelihood of being re-signed by the UFC after being released by the organization in late 2010 and subsequently stringing together wins a quartet of consecutive clashes. However, rather than worry about protecting his spot on the roster, the 32-year old Cote is excited to have an opportunity to make his comeback on such a grand stage and against such a worthwhile adversary. The 16-7 Cote faces Cung Le on Saturday evening at UFC 148 .
In order to help amp up the hype for this weekend’s headlining tilt at UFC 148 between middleweight king Anderson Silva and talented court jester Chael Sonnen the organization has released a clip documenting some of the stats stemming from their original encounter in 2010. As is no doubt seared into the minds of fans, Silva absorbed a ton of damage over four rounds before sinking in a fight-ending Triangle Choke in the final minutes of the fifth frame. Among the interesting numbers mentioned in the video are Silva spending twice the time on his back in the bout as he did in eleven Octagon appearances prior to it as well as Sonnen landing more significant strikes in the first round than Silva had ever eaten in the duration of any of his other UFC fights.
This weekend Tito Ortiz will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. However, despite being a pioneer of the sport, a former UFC champion, and even owning a win over Ortiz inside the Octagon, one man who will likely never know the joy of joining the organization’s elite group of veterans is Frank Shamrock .

For a bout as widely anticipated as next weekend’s rematch between UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva and arch-nemesis Chael Sonnen it seems logical to amp up the promotion in comparison to the standard fare. While the UFC wasn’t able to coordinate a complete UFC Primetime series to document the build up towards their headlining bout at UFC 148 , it appears the organization will at least release a single installment highlighting the weeks leading up to the year’s biggest fight. The show premieres tomorrow night (June 30) at 7:00 PM EST on Fuel TV
