In order to help amp up the hype for this weekend’s headlining tilt at UFC 148 between middleweight king Anderson Silva and talented court jester Chael Sonnen the organization has released a clip documenting some of the stats stemming from their original encounter in 2010. As is no doubt seared into the minds of fans, Silva absorbed a ton of damage over four rounds before sinking in a fight-ending Triangle Choke in the final minutes of the fifth frame. Among the interesting numbers mentioned in the video are Silva spending twice the time on his back in the bout as he did in eleven Octagon appearances prior to it as well as Sonnen landing more significant strikes in the first round than Silva had ever eaten in the duration of any of his other UFC fights.

When UFC 148 arrives it will have been nearly two full years since middleweight champion Anderson Silva narrowly escaped a title-defense against Chael Sonnen with his reign intact. However, based on the emotion involved as well as Sonnen’s uncanny ability to promote, it feels like only yesterday the 35-year old grappler dominated Silva for four rounds until succumbing to a submission in the final frame. With the hotly anticipated rematch between the two about a month away the UFC has released a preview for the match-up including a quick recap of their 2010 match-up as a voiceover builds the intensity, stating, “In nearly a decade of dominance no man has come close to beating Anderson Silva…except one!” UFC 148 is scheduled for July 7 and also features bouts between Cung Le-Patrick Cote , Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin , and Urijah Faber-Renan Barao
Jake Ellenberger knows he can continue to rapidly climb up the UFC ‘s welterweight ladder when he steps inside the Octagon this Friday night against Martin Kampmann . Since a loss to Carlos Condit in 2009, Ellenberger has posted six consecutive victories including wins over John Howard, Jake Shields , and most recently Diego Sanchez . “It’s definitely an honor to be a main event again,” said the 27-5 Ellenberger in a recent interview on UFC Ultimate Insider .
Now UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz is officially out of a planned match with Urijah Faber at UFC 148 , what does “The California Kid” hope is in his future? Rather than wait for Cruz to return or dismiss the notion of fighting in July, it turns out Faber wants to face a fellow top contender in the division with the involvement of an interim title. “I’m just waiting to hear what happens,” said Faber in a video he released through his website.

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans has been in pursuit of reclaiming the title for more than a year now, as injuries have kept him from taking advantage of the #1 contender position he earned by defeating Quinton “Rampage” Jackson . Now, barring anything happening over the next month, Evans will finally face off with Jon Jones for the divisional strap.
