Though the bout has flown somewhat under the radar since Rich Franklin exited the match-up in order to replace Vitor Belfort at UFC 147 , this weekend former Strikeforce middleweight champ Cung Le will make his second career appearance inside the Octagon when he takes on Patrick Cote at UFC 148 . Le turned in an exciting performance in his promotional debut, battling Wanderlei Silva in a Fight of the Night winner despite ultimately coming up short where victory was concerned. This time around he’ll clearly aim to even the score with a strike-based stoppage of Cote, and if Le’s workout routine is any indicator of his chances for success the odds certainly seem to be in his favor.

Vitor Belfort was knocked out of a main event meeting with Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 due to a broken hand suffered in training. Several weeks removed from going under the knife to repair the issue, “The Phenom” headed back to the doctor to have the surgically-inserted pins pulled out of his hand

It looks like a rematch between rivals Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva may not be a lock after all.
A broken hand may have laid waste to the headlining bout originally planned for this past weekend’s UFC 147 lineup but it looks like the UFC is still looking to have Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva meet in front of their fellow Brazilians before the year ends. According to UFC official Marshall Zelaznik , the Octagon will likely return to Rio in October with the event playing host to Belfort-Silva II. The two legends first locked horns in 1998 with “The Phenom” putting the finishing touches on Silva in less than a minute

There was never any doubt the second meeting between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva would result in an entertaining affair. However, few could have envisioned exactly how incredible the rematch would actually be
When Rich Franklin found out the UFC needed his help to fill an opening against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 it would have been both easy and understandable for him to have said, “No.” After all, the former middleweight champion was already in the midst of preparing to fight Cung Le on July 7, arguably an easier draw, and hadn’t seen action since February 2011 due to a serious shoulder injury. However, “Ace” still stepped up and hasn’t looked back since. While he’ll have to wait until Saturday night to find out if he made the right decision, from the sound of it Franklin has no regrets about assisting the organization he’s spent the bulk of his career in
UFC heavyweight Mike Russow may not look like a world-class fighter but he sure hits like one. The 15-1 Chicago cop has won his last eleven bouts including a pair of TKOs in his four Octagon appearances. However, this weekend he’ll face a challenge unlike any he’s stared down before inside the cage in the form of Fabricio Werdum .
Whoever came up with the famous saying about the difficulty in teaching “an old dog new tricks” clearly wasn’t considering Mixed Martial Arts at the time. While Wanderlei Silva ’s reputation may be one involving a singular focus on stand-up, he’s also been training to fight more intelligently than in the past while changing up camps including a recent stint at Team Blackhouse alongside Lyoto Machida and Fabricio Werdum . Given his vast amount of experience, when Rich Franklin fights Silva next Saturday night at UFC 147 he won’t make the mistake of thinking he’ll be facing the same “Axe Murderer” as he did in 2009 en route to a Unanimous Decision win or even the same competitor he’s watched tape of

Tito Ortiz claimed the UFC light heavyweight championship with a victory over Wanderlei Silva in 2000. He then went on to defend the title a record five times before falling to Randy Couture a few years later. Since that time, the division’s top spot has been like a revolving door with numerous title-holders failing to successfully defend it a single time
Even though UFC middleweight Wanderlei Silva is currently immersed in a camp preparing him for a rematch with Rich Franklin taking place in a little more than a week he has another fighter on his mind – Chael Sonnen . Silva’s issues with the silver-tongued scrapper have been well-documented over the past few years with their personal problems first surfacing after Sonnen decided to diss Brazil as part of his strategy for selling a fight with Anderson Silva . However, during an in-person encounter caught on tape, Sonnen had very little to say about Silva or his countrymen when pressed by “The Axe Murderer” to explain his actions.
